Sophis names general manager for South Asia

Jean-STbastien Py takes on the new role in the Singapore hub and will target new markets in South Asia for the portfolio and risk software firm.

Paris-based Sophis, which supplies portfolio and risk management software, has named Jean-Sébastien Py as general manager for South Asia, covering Southeast Asia and the Indian subcontinent.

Having joined the firm in 2004, Py relocated to Singapore earlier this month from Hong Kong, where he helped build the Sophis team and client base as head of business consulting for Asia.

Py's remit will cover consulting, support and implementations for new and existing clients in South Asia, following Sophis's recent signings of Queensland Investment Corporation in Australia and a large hedge fund in Singapore. Py also plans to explore new markets such as India and Vietnam.

These duties previously fell to Corinne Grillet, Singapore-based chief operating officer for Asia-Pacific. Py's move will allow Grillet, to whom he reports, to focus more on strategic leadership in the region.

Sophis is working on multiple deals and plans to boost its Singapore headcount from the current six by "at least 50%" this year, says Vincent Lo, Asia sales director in Hong Kong.

Py's appointment follows the hire of Ian Evans in Dubai last year to bolster the vendor's business-development team.
