Lehman Brothers appoints new China head of investment banking

Sherry Liu departs CLSA to take up the post.

As part of an effort to boost its Asian investment banking franchise, Lehman Brothers has announced the appointment of Sherry Liu to the position of managing director and head of investment banking for China.

Liu, who has over ten years of investment banking experience, joins the bank from CLSA, where she held the same position as the one she will take up with Lehman Brothers. In her time at CLSA, Liu worked on such major transactions as the $697 million merger between Huaneng Power and Shandong Huaneng and the IPO for China Resources Beijing Land.

"The addition of Sherry Liu signals the firm's commitment to building our capabilities in China and the region," says Jesse Bhattal, Lehman's chief executive officer in Asia. "The People's Republic of China is an increasingly important component of the firm's investment banking franchise in Asia and Sherry will play a significant role in leading the expansion of our footprint in the region."
