CSFB boosts China research team

Two new team members boost coverage of H-shares and A-shares.

CSFB has hired Jeannie Cheung and Stanley Wong to its China equity research team. Cheung joins as a director and will cover consumer electronics and auto stocks. She joins from HSBC where she has covered China strategy, consumer electronics, conglomerates and regional chemical companies since 1999.

Wong joins as an associate from GE Asia Pacific Capital Technology Fund, where he has worked since 2001. At the fund he was looking at semiconductor, display equipment, handset, auto and online gaming companies. At CSFB he will cover both H-shares and A-shares.

The move comes in the wake of CSFB's being awarded a Qualified Foreign Institutional Investor license for $50 million worth of business in 2003. As a result, the firm is now putting out research on domestically listed Chinese stocks.

However it is confining itself to more general sector reports at present and is not producing individual company reports with recommendations just yet. It is understood that both Cheung and Wong will be writing these sector reports.

With the hires, CSFB now has ten analysts in its China research team, which is headed by Kenneth Luh to whom the new recruits will report.
