StanChart Private Bank hires head of Taiwan

Standard Chartered Bank has hired Vicky Lin from Morgan Stanley as managing director and head of Taiwan market for private banking.

The role was newly created as part of StanChart’s overall efforts to position the private bank for growth in the Greater China and North Asia region.

Lin is based in Hong Kong and reports to Desmond Liu, managing director and head of private banking for Greater China and North Asia. Her appointment took effect September 4.

In a press statement, StanChart said Lin brings with her extensive experience in the financial services industry, as well as keen insights and understanding of the Taiwanese market.

Prior to this appointment, she was the executive director for private wealth management for Taiwan and Greater China at Morgan Stanley. (this is essentially a relationship manager role for offshore market.

Morgan Stanley declined to comment.

StanChart aims to grow its offshore Taiwan private banking market. It cited a Capgemini World Wealth Report 2015 that said Taiwan is among the top 25 HNWI population and saw 12 per cent growth from 2013-2014.

“Taiwan is one of Asia’s leading wealth generators. Vicky’s deep knowledge of the Taiwanese market will be of significant value to our Greater China and North Asia business momentum,” said Liu.
