ABN Amro has appointed Peter Shorthouse as new head of media research for the Asia Pacific region. The former UBS Warburg media research director will be based in Sydney, responsible for integrating local research into the bank's global media team.

Alastair Barr, equities head in Australia, expects Shorthouse's six years' experience with UBS will help the bank increase its penetration in the local equities market. Phillip Lewis, head of equities research in Australia, hopes Shorthouse will give the bank a strong edge in media research in the region.

Shorthouse, a qualified chartered accountant, will take up his new post in January.
