Lehman hires new head of telecoms research

Alan Hellawell returns to banking after five years in the telecoms industry.

Lehman Brothers has announced the appointment of Alan Hellawell as the bank's head of Asian telecom research. Based in Hong Kong, he will be responsible for strengthening and expanding the global coverage of telecom companies in ex-Japan Asia.

Before his move to Lehman, Hellawell worked for Lucent Technologies for five years, and prior to that he was assistant research manager at SBC Warburg Securities, Taiwan.

Commenting on the hire, William McGrath, director of ex-Japan Asia research, highlights Hellawell's skills as an analyst and experience working in the industry.

"The combination of Hellawell's proven track record as a top-ranked analyst, together with his invaluable knowledge of the sector having worked at leading global telecom companies, will allow Lehman Brothers to deliver to its key institutional customer base unparalleled insight into Asia's telecom companies."

In addition, Hellawell is fluent in Mandarin, Japanese, Korea, French and Spanish.
