Japan Asset Owner Insights report out now

AsianInvestor is pleased to announce the publication of its latest Asset Owner Insights report — your guide to the investing behaviour of Japan’s largest and most influential allocators.

Asset managers, and anyone covering institutional investors in this market, can access a comprehensive overview of the allocation strategies and portfolio breakdown of Japanese allocators in this simple-to-understand report.

The report provides detailed statistics and highlights the priorities of the key institutional investors in this market.

Japanese asset owners are among the most sophisticated in the region, and there is continuing interest among asset managers to understand their investment patterns and behaviour.

Below are some sample insights from the report:

-- Japan Post Bank, the country’s largest deposit taking institution by total assets, grew its investment trust sales by 13% in the 12 months ended March 2016, and a further 27% by March 2017. Around 75% of the satellite portfolio, which focuses on generating higher returns, is invested in foreign securities.

-- Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank, the largest trust bank manager of corporate pension funds in Japan, had a bit of a setback in the financial year ended March 2016, as corporate pension assets fell 8.6% from the same period a year ago, while overall pensions were also down by 17%.

-- Government Pension Investment Fund, the world’s largest public pension fund with $1.2 trillion in AUM as of March 2016, said it will consider offers from domestic and overseas asset managers for managing alternatives like private equity and real estate. The fund can invest up to 5% of their assets into alternatives.
