White & Case strengthens China practice

Chang and Chong come on board as partners.

White & Case has bolstered its China practice, poaching Frederick Chang and Seung Chong from rival firms and appointing both to the partnership.

Chang rises the White & Case ranks in the Beijing offices, joining the international firm from King & Wood, China's largest law firm. To White & Case, the New York native bring over 20 years of experience, which has largely revolved around financing and M&A transactions. At King & Wood, Chang was a partner in the firm's Beijing offices and also has previous experience from Deutsche Bank in Singapore, where he was an executive director and general counsel for Asia.

Chang's career also extends to an in-house role with Goldman Sachs in Hong Kong and to the publishing world, which consists of a book comprising lectures he delivered at the University of International Business and Economics in Beijing. Chang has also been chairman of ISDA's North Asia legal committee since 1995.

Joining from Simmons & Simmons, Chong cut his teeth in M&A and numerous other deals involving China transactions. Throughout his career, Chong has also acted as seconded in-house counsel to the equity capital markets group at ABN AMRO. He has also practiced with Coudert Brothers' in its China team and has led the China and M&A practices of Magic Circle.
