KIC GETS NEW DEPUTY CIO
Korea Investment Corporation (KIC) has appointed Kang Duho as new deputy chief investment officer and vice head of the investment strategy group, according to the sovereign wealth fund’s website.
Kang replaces Park Tae, who was previously deputy CIO and head of the investment strategy group. CIO Park Daeyang, also known as David Park, has taken on the latter role.
Park Daeyang had joined KIC in August 2019 from Korea Teachers’ Pension Fund, where he was CIO. KIC did not respond to repeated requests for comment on Kang's appointment or why Park had left the role.
SSGA LOSES HK HEAD OF ETFS
Ray Chan will leave his role as Hong Kong head of exchange-traded funds at State Street Global Advisors in April, and the firm is in the process of appointing a replacement, a spokeswoman confirmed to AsianInvestor.
Chan has a job lined up elsewhere, an industry source said, but AsianInvestor could not ascertain his next destination.
He had joined SSGA in 2012 as Asia ex-Japan head of business development for SPDR ETFs, and before that had worked at Hong Kong’s BEA Union Investment, Schroders and Capital Group.
PING AN AM PORTFOLIO MANAGER EXITS
Fan Lili has resigned from her role as Hong Kong-based executive director and portfolio manager in treasury at Ping An Asset Management, a spokeswoman confirmed. The Chinese firm is seeking a replacement, she added.
Fan's regulatory licence with Ping An AM ended on March 9, show Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission records. AsianInvestor could not ascertain her next move.
BRIDGEWATER CHINA APPOINTS HEAD OF TECHNOLOGY
Dong has relocated to Shanghai from Hong Kong for the role at Bridgewater China Investment Management.
He previously worked at Daiwa Capital Markets as global head of electronic trading solutions since June 2016 and before that at Swiss bank UBS. Daiwa did not respond to inquiries about when Dong left the firm and who would take over his responsibilities.
VANGUARD GETS NEW ASIA HEAD
Vanguard has named Scott Conking as head of Asia as of March 13, reporting to James Norris, head of the US fund house's international operations.
He succeeds Axel Lomholt, who had served as interim head of Vanguard Asia since December 31. Lomholt was previously head of portfolio review in Asia. He will continue to play a strategic leadership role in Asia at Vanguard and report to Conking, a spokeswoman said.Conking has relocated to Hong Kong from his post as head of US institutional investor services.
BlackRock has poached Rimmo Jolly from Citi to be head of iShares for Asia Pacific, effective May 4.
It is a newly created role, as the fund house is looking to grow its ETF market share, a company spokeswoman said. Jolly will report to Susan Chan, Asia-Pacific head of iShares and index investing. Both are based in Hong Kong.
He is currently Citi’s regional head of ETF and index business development for Asia Pacific including Japan.
Citi will make an announcement on his replacement in due course, a bank spokesman said.
CBRE LOSES GREATER CHINA ADVISORY HEAD
Virginia Huang, former managing director of advisory and transaction services for Greater China at CBRE, left the firm in early March to pursue new career opportunities, a company spokesman said. A replacement will be announced shortly, she added.
AsianInvestor could not ascertain Huang's next move.
SGX APPOINTS DEPUTY CFO
Singapore Exchange has named Ng Yao Loong as deputy chief financial officer, effective from April 1 to October 1, when he will succeed Chng Lay Chew as CFO upon the latter's retirement.
Ng currently reports to Chng and will subsequently report to Loh Boon Chye, SGX chief executive, a spokeswoman told AsianInvestor.
Ng was previously assistant managing director of development and international at the Monetary Authority of Singapore until he left on April 1 last year, a spokeswoman told AsianInvestor. He was replaced by Benny Chey, the former executive director of reserve management, according to the MAS.
