First State Investments fills sales role

Amy Cho, formerly of HSBC Asset Management, has a broad remit.

Amy Cho has joined First State Investments in Hong Kong as its head of sales for Hong Kong and North Asia.

She had previously worked for June Wong as a director of business development at HSBC Asset Management; both women left that firm early this year and Eugene Chen now runs the institutional show.

Although the position she takes is not new, it has been vacant for a long time and was last headed by Falco Lam, who had left First State last year.

Cho will now be responsible for both retail and institutional sales, retail being a new area for her.

"Amy's role is Hong Kong-centred but will overlap with North Asia as needed," says Thomas Waring, First State Investment's CEO for Asia, to whom she now reports. "It is a broad responsibility."

He adds that Cho will spend the next few months building a small team to help her. "We will be adding people," Waring says.
