Hun Liang Kuah has been appointed CEO and managing director of Deutsche Bank (Malaysia) Berhad. The outgoing CEO, Erdmann Vogt, has decided to return to Germany, leaving Deutsche after 30 years with the bank.
Hun Liang Kuah joined Deutsche in 1989 and was formerly the head of global capital markets for Deutsche Bank in Malaysia, a position he has held since 1997.
Ken Borda, chief executive of Deutsche Bank Asia Pacific, says that under Kauh's leadership Deutsche built a strong local Global Markets franchise in Malaysia. He adds, "there remain significant opportunities for further growth across the broader spectrum of our investment banking, transaction banking and asset management businesses."
The appointment is effective immediately and Kuah will report directly to Ken Borda and Loh Boon Chye, head of global markets Asia. Kuah will be in charge of a staff of 130 in Malaysia and will continue to function as the head of global markets.
Kuah sees his major challenge as the integration of Deutsche Bank's offerings in Malaysia. "If we can achieve an integrated platform across Deutsche Bank's product range, and integrated coverage, the rest should be academic," he concludes.
