AE sets up Beijing headquarters

American Express Company has set up its China headquarters in Beijing. It is scheduled to open in the third quarter this year. LJ Jia, Vice President and Country Manager of China, will head up the new office, which marks the companyÆs business development in China.

Broadly speaking, the China headquarters will be taking part in American ExpressÆs growing business in China. Practically, they will be engaged in coordinating the companyÆs business activities and liaison with government agencies and business partners.

Since 1916, American Express has been developing its business in China with the first American Express Bank branch set up in Shanghai.

Geoff Bruce, President of Asia Pacific/Australia, American Express, said, "With China headquarters in Beijing, American Express is in a more advantageous position to respond quickly to new business opportunities arising from a dynamic Chinese economy. This is also a milestone development for American Express, especially when we are celebrating our 150th anniversary. It not only marks our continuous commitment to China, but the beginning of a new era of our business development here."
