Goldman Sachs AM won our institutional provider award this year, showing off its specialist abilities by winning and restructuring mandates for clients from insurers to sovereign funds.
How GSAM excelled in providing institutional solutions

Since May 30, AsianInvestor has published explanations of why the winners of its marquee Asset Management Awards scooped their prizes. These were presented at a celebratory dinner on May 29 (click here for a gallery of photos).

We have already featured write-ups on Invesco, for its Asset Manager of the Year and Best Business Development awards; UOB Asset Management as Asian Fund House of the Year; HSBC Securities Services as Asset Service Provider of the Year; and LGT Capital Partners for Alternatives Manager of the Year.

We will feature a detailed write-up on all our award winners in the forthcoming June edition of AsianInvestor magazine.

Best institutional solutions provider
Goldman Sachs Asset Management

The judges were impressed with Goldman Sachs Asset Management's proactive approach to business development amid heightened volatility and uncertainty. Its strategic focus on tailored solutions and knowledge sharing helped bring in $4.6 billion of funded gross AUM from existing clients.

An example of this client engagement was the restructuring of a fixed-income mandate in Asia, with $1.6 billion of assets. Through several rounds of discussion and thorough analysis of the risks, the mandate was changed from a global government mandate to a mortgage-backed securities mandate.

GSAM’s collaboration with sovereign fund clients went beyond simple fiduciary duty and into exploring new areas of investment. For example, the firm delivered a customised opportunistic hedge fund to one sovereign client, its first such partnership arrangement.

GSAM’s insurance platform encompasses a dedicated global portfolio management team. In 2015, it helped one of Asia’s largest insurers map out potential investment strategies, applying overlay analyses by risk, correlation and liquidity. It also conducted strategic asset allocation analysis and re-allocation for a Hong Kong life insurer, to help identify ways to enhance risk-adjusted returns.
