More than 320 delegates attended AsianInvestor’s seventh annual Asian Investment Summit at The Conrad Hotel in Hong Kong on May 23 and 24.

The two-day event saw Enoch Fung of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority give a presentation about the development of Hong Kong as an offshore renminbi centre.

James McDonald of Northern Trust provided a global view on investment trends, while Marco Montanari of Deutsche Bank focused on misconceptions about ETF risk management.

Further pre-lunch presentations centred on the outlook for emerging markets by Julian Thompson of Axa Investment Managers, and solving the EMD puzzle by William Ledward of Franklin Templeton.

Harvard Business School’s Robert Pozen began the afternoon with a look at global equities, major events and implications; that was followed by a panel discussion on corporate governance challenges for institutional investors.

Matthew Murphy of Eaton Vance engaged in an on-stage Q&A on the global macroeconomic outlook, and the day’s final session featured Trevor Persaud of Russell Investments with a CIO’s perspective of portfolio management.

The second day started with independent Andy Xie providing an economic outlook for 2012 and beyond. A second Q&A followed on Asia ex-Japan equity markets by Anh Lu of T. Rowe Price.

Analytics on indices was the subject of the first presentation of the morning by Anthony Yeung of Thomson Reuters Indices; Asia’s growth trajectory was the second by Tim Craighead of Bloomberg Industries.

Two panels followed either side of lunch, the first on rebalancing investment risk and the second on what investors are concerned about for the coming five years.

The event concluded with the Asian fund management CEO roundtable featuring Hwang Sung-Taek of Truston Asset Management, Somchai Boonamsiri of Krung Thai Asset Management and Blair Pickerell of Nikko Asset Management.
