Newedge’s Daley exits as Asia cap-intro head

Rebekah Pang takes over as cap-intro head as 10-year Newedge veteran Kirby Daley exits for a buy-side role.

Newedge Group veteran Kirby Daley has departed from the firm, where he had served as senior strategist and head of the Asia capital introductions desk that he founded.

Rebekah Pang, a Singapore-based associate director at Newedge, will take over his role as regional cap-intro head, according to Newedge. She has been involved in origination, structuring and capital introductions for the firm.

Newedge's Paris headquarters, in response to an AsianInvestor query, says that Daley "has decided to accept a senior position as a buy-side after 10 successful years with Newedge", without elaborating.

Daley’s departure follows a rise in Newedge’s prime brokerage business in Asia-Pacific, which has grown to $1.6 billion in assets under management, from $1 billion last year, according to a recent AsiaHedge survey.

A prominent market commentator, Daley frequently appeared on business television channels where he espoused his characteristically bearish views. He held a regular guest spot on CBNC, but has not appeared on the network in recent weeks.

Daley joined Newedge’s Tokyo office as a macroeconomic strategist in 2001, and in the following year launched the firm’s capital introductions desk in Asia. He relocated to Hong Kong in 2005, serving double duty as a strategist and head of regional cap intro.

Prior to Newedge, Daley worked in Japan’s commodity futures markets and as a foreign exchange dealer. He has also worked as a trader for the special commodities division of Pillsbury Co, now known as Commodity Specialists Co.

Daley could not be reached for comment.
