Equity funds worldwide post a net outflow of $3.33 billion in the week ending August 19, according to data from Massachusetts-based EPFR Global. Data from EPFR Global shows an increased appetite for diversified and developed markets. EPFR Global attributes the strong inflows to corporate earnings and macroeconomic trends. Investors pull back from emerging market funds and reassess whether there is truly cause to be optimistic on the global economic front. Money market funds continue to record huge outflows. Korea equity funds take in $317 million in net inflows so far this year. Investors take up shares on hopes that the new US administration will step up efforts to fix the country's broken financial sector. Global equities funds led the exodus last year with net redemptions of $79.4 billion. Money market funds proved cash was king and ended the year with $455.4 billion in net inflows. China equity funds absorb $213 million in net inflows as authorities cut interest rates by more than 1% and loosen bank reserve requirements. Lower share price valuations and outflows extend the drop in assets under management of equity funds. Some investors are flocking to ETFs.
