Some 355 delegates from around 200 companies gathered at the Four Seasons Hotel in Hong Kong for the London Stock Exchange Group's Greater China Conference on June 29.

The event, which came less than a week after the UK's historic Brexit vote, was organised by LSE and FTSE Russell, in association with AsianInvestor and its sister publication FinanceAsia.

Keynote speaker was Danny Alexander, a former chief secretary to the Treasury in the British government and now a vice-president of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank. Keynote addresses came from Li Tong, CEO of Bank of China International, and Esther Blythe, Britain's deputy consul general to Hong Kong.

Topics for debate included the potential impact of Britain's imminent departure from the European Union on a proposed trading link between London and Shanghai. Other speakers stressed that London remained the key European hub for Asian investors - even if that status was likely to suffer post-Brexit.
