AsianInvestor hosted its fourth annual Japan Institutional Investment Forum at the Palace Hotel in Tokyo in March 11.
The keynote speech was delivered by Daisuke Hamaguchi, chief investment officer of Japan’s Pension Fund Association. He delivered a frank opening address in which he said investors would be unwise to rely on standard deviation as a tool to measure risk, as reported.
Chris Sunderland, institutional portfolio manager at Eaton Vance, gave a talk on global equity, suggesting that the structural underweight on Japan by investors was now a thing of the past, as reported.
The event also featured a corporate pensions roundtable, an update on the state of corporate governance reform from the Financial Services Agency and insights from leading institutional investors.
Further, there was a panel discussion on Japan’s domestic investment outlook on Japan, in which the experts unanimously delivered a positive view for the first time in years, as reported.
