Axa's Asia CIO makes move to AllianceBernstein

Axa Asia’s CIO is leaving the company in order to join AllianceBernstein as a managing director.

Hong Kong-based Arnaud Mounier will start at AllianceBernstein this month to lead its Asian insurance business development operation, according to an Axa spokeswoman.

Mounier will be replaced by Boris Moutier, who has been Axa Investment Managers’ head of relationships for Asia and Japan since 2013. Moutier is already based in Hong Kong.

AllianceBernstein is an affiliated company under the Axa group.

Mounier's current stint at Axa started nearly six years ago, in June 2009, as regional head of investment management and hedging services. He was in charge of investment management and hedging strategies for Axa Life insurance companies across Asia ex-Japan. Mounier held that post for nine months before being promoted to regional chief investment officer for Axa Asia in February 2010.

Prior to joining Axa, Mounier worked for the investment bank Calyon between April 2007 and May 2009 as a director.

Before that, Mounier worked at Axa Investment Managers between 2004 and 2007 as a credit structurer.

Moutier worked at Axa IM in Paris before moving to Hong Kong in 2013.

It comes just weeks after Axa IM lost its Asia-Pacific chief executive Simon Flood after just six months into the role. Flood left Axa IM in February this year having only taken up the regional CEO role in August 2014. At the time Axa IM told AsianInvestor that Flood had left the company for personal reasons and had returned to New Zealand. A senior source said Flood left the firm amid a disagreement over strategy.

An Axa IM spokeswoman confirmed that Bruno Guilloton will take up the position of head of Asia Pacific next month, subject to regulatory approval.

Guilloton has been Axa’s shareholder representative for Asia for the past seven years. He is a board member for all of Axa IM's Asian entities and in his new role he will continue to oversee the firm's relationship with its joint ventures in Shanghai, Seoul and Mumbai.

Guilloton joined Axa IM in 1999 as head of equities, managing a team of 21 people. From 2000 to 2002 he was CEO of Axa IM Tokyo, leading the merger with Axa Rosenberg Japan. In 2002 he became Asian regional director for Axa Rosenberg and Axa IM. From 2005 to 2008 he was global head of internal audit.

Prior to joining Axa IM Guilloton was head of equity fund management at Credit Mutuel Finance for five years, before which he worked for a decade at Banque Indosuez as a financial analyst and portfolio manager. He was appointed joint head of equity management at Indosuez Asset Management in France.

AllianceBernstein failed to respond to AsianInvestor’s requests for comment.
