Nomura calls on Callaghan

Nomura has made a big hire in its Asian research team, recruiting Stewart Callaghan to the firm from BNP Paribas. From Nomura AsiaÆs Hong Kong offices, Callaghan will answer to the title of head of Asia ex-Japan research with immediate effect.

In the new role, he will report to Akihito Watanabe, NomuraÆs head of global research and will be assigned with leading its Asia research division and its team expansion. Currently Nomura has 30 analysts around the region and plans to boost this number by approximately a third in the coming months.

He crosses to Nomura from BNP Paribas Peregrine in Hong Kong where he was regional head of country research, working with the firm from 2004. Prior to this role, he was deputy global head of research at ABN AMRO in London and was employed by the Dutch bank between 1997-2003.

Callaghan takes on the role after the recent transfer of Morikawa Kimitaka. Although MorikawaÆs new role at Nomura in Japan has yet to be announced, it is understood that the bank will reveal this in late June.
