SSB appoints new head of telecoms research

The lure of Asia proves strong for Craig Irvine, who returns to the region after two years in New York with Merrill.

Salomon Smith Barney has announced the appointment of Craig Irvine as the bank's new head of telecommunications research for the Asia Pacific region. Based in Singapore and reporting to Otto Wong, managing director and head of Asia Pacific equity research, Irvine will lead a team of six analysts around the region.

He joins SSB from Merrill Lynch, where he covered alternative carriers and global issues for the last two years from New York, and previously was head of Asia Pacific telecom research in Hong Kong.

"We are delighted Craig is heading-up our regional telecommunications research team," says Wong. "He has an excellent track record in driving a top-tier telecoms research franchise in both Asia and the U.S. We look forward to Craig leading the marketing and promotion of our regional telecoms product."
