MSDW appoints David Graham as general counsel in Asia Pacific

David Graham will join Morgan Stanley Dean Witter (MSDW) as managing director and general counsel and head of the law division in Asia Pacific.

Graham, formerly a partner at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer (Freshfields), was seconded to MSDW 18 months ago as acting head of its Asia Pacific law division. In this role, he advised on a number of the firm's recent high profile deals, including the merger of the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Futures Exchange, the strategic alliance between Telstra and PCCW, and the initial public offerings of China Unicom and Sinopec. Graham's appointment is a continuation of this role.

A graduate of Oxford University, Graham joined Freshfields in 1982 and become a partner in 1991. During his time at Freshfields, he worked in the firm's Paris, New York, London and Hong Kong offices. He was also joint secretary of the UK Takeover Panel from 1990 to 1992.

Based in Hong Kong, Graham will officially take up his appointment on 1 May 2001.
