HSBC Korea adds investment banking head

The former VP of an Internet infrastructure company is the new head of investment banking and markets.

Injoon Chaey, former executive vice-president and CIO of Internet infrastructure company GNG Networks in Seoul, has been appointed head of investment banking and markets at HSBC in Korea.

Prior to joining GNG Networks, Chaey spent seven years at JP Morgan Securities, commencing his career there in 1992. His first position was head of corporate finance, Korea, followed by a stint as head of debt syndication in Hong Kong. Most recently, he was vice-president, loan syndication in New York.

Prior to his time at JP Morgan, Chaey held positions at Bank of America and Bankers Trust (which was acquired by Deutsche Bank in June 1999).

Stuart Gulliver, chief executive, investment banking and markets, HSBC, Asia Pacific, says: "[Chaey's] wide-ranging background in corporate finance and capital markets, including his recent experience on the client side, will significantly strengthen our business in Korea."
