Suzuki motors into Paul Hastings' Japan chair

30-year veteran of the firm to replace the relocating John Steed.

International law firm Paul Hastings has announced that Kaoruhiko Suzuki will replace John Steed as the new chair of its Tokyo office, capping a stellar career with the firm that has lasted 30 years. He takes on the distinguished role after Steed returns to Los Angeles after nine years in Tokyo.

Over his 30 year stretch with Paul Hastings, Suzuki has split his time between both the US and Japan, where he has represented companies from both nations on a variety of corporate and transactional matters ranging from cross-border M&A, strategic investments, joint ventures and restructurings. His legal experience also extends to international and real estate financings and international trade issues.

On top of this, Suzuki also played a significant role in pioneering Paul Hastings' Japan practice during this time period. In 1988, he helped establish its Tokyo office and the following decade led its integrated US and Japanese legal services on multi-jurisdictional transaction matters to both local and Western clients.

Upon returning to LA, Steed will continue to be closely involved with Paul Hastings' Tokyo practice, advising American-based clients on their Japanese investments.
