Sunil's Warsaw pact

Citigroup Singapore country head, Sunil Sreenivasan is promoted to Poland.

The man who brings the Savile Row to Citigroup in Asia, Sunil Sreenivasan is to move in April into a top job with the bank in Poland.

Currently, the country head for Singapore, and prior to that for Malaysia, Sreenivasan is a motivational character with a passion for the business as well as the good things in life. Known as a cigar afficionado - indeed he refers to cigars as his "little brown babies" - he is also an accomplished classical guitarist.

He is to take on a senior role in Poland as chief country officer and head of corporate and investment banking. Poland is one of Citi's big growth areas, especially since 2001 when the bank took a controlling stake in the country's premier local institution, Bank Handlowy w Warszawie. Bank Handlowy has more than 18,000 corporate customers, and 700,000 retail customers. Poland, moreover, is the economic dynamo of Central Europe.

His move to Europe will cap a long stint in Asia, and bring him closer to his favoured Summer holidaying island, Capri and to his probable tailor, Anderson & Sheppard of 30 Savile Row. The only downside may be uprooting his formidable CD collection, which occupies a whole room of his house in Singapore.

Citi has yet to announce his replacement in Singapore, although regional boss, Steve Long will probably announce it on a forthcoming trip to the Lion City.
