With no alternative to water, its supply is one of the great challenges of the 21st century and therein lies the potential for investors to profit.

With water use forecast to increase by 40% globally between now and 2020, Andreas Knoerzer, head of sustainable investment at Bank Sarasin, recommends investing in water as a long-term theme.

“Water actually powers our economy, because it is essential not only for human life, but for agriculture and industrial process,” says the Switzerland-based Knoerzer, who made the remarks at the recent TBLI conference on Sustainable Investment Strategies in Bangkok.
