Standard Bank calls on Chen

South African bank appoints head of global markets, Taiwan.

Charles Chen has been named the new director, head of global markets for Standard Bank's Taiwan operations. In the role, he will report to Michael Swo, general manager, Taiwan and also to Jonathan Chung, head of global markets, Asia, who is based in Hong Kong.

For the South African bank, Chen will have responsibility for all of its global markets activities in Taiwan, which includes interest rate and foreign exchange trading.

He arrives at Standard Bank from Toronto-Dominion Bank's Taipei operations where he was head of capital markets and country head. In this position, Chen was responsible for G7 and Taiwan dollar derivatives trading and sales businesses.

Before giving his services to TD Bank, Chen also held roles with UBS, Bank of America and JPMorgan Chase.

His hiring comes as Standard Bank plans to further expand its operations in Taiwan and hire more personnel in its treasury operations.
