Nomura furthers Asian equity expansion

Nomura has expanded its Asian equity business with a number new hires and promotions within its research, sales and trading operations.

Laurent Gilbert will be joining the firm in mid-May as head of European sales for Asia Equity ex-Japan. Based in Paris, Gilbert will report to co-heads of Asian equity sales Stephen Hunt and Takeshi Imatoki.

In New York, Sam Ramsey has been promoted to head of equity sales for Asia ex-Japan, while in Hong Kong, Sandra Koo joins as a senior sales person from Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein.

In Korea, Nomura has hired Peter Kim as a senior sales person and Julie Seoul as a sales trader. Both were previously with Salomon Smith Barney.

In Taiwan, Albert Lee has joined the team, concentrating on domestic sales, and Jennifer Ho and Richard Cappo have been recruited for international sales. Lee, Ho and Cappo will report to Arthur Lo, Nomura's head of Asian equity global distribution for China and Taiwan.

Patricia Chew has joined the sales trading team in Singapore, reporting to Kevin Pereira who is head of Southeast Asian sales trading.

On the research front, Graeme Bateman will be joining from Schroder Investment Management as head of Korean research.

In Taiwan, recent hires include Cathy Lee, who will cover the banking sector and Alan Pan, who will cover mid-cap companies.

Elsewhere in Asia, Theodore Teo has joined Nomura in Hong Kong from Prudential Bache to cover Hong Kong/China technology companies on a regional basis, and Robert Stockfis joined the research team in Bangkok in December.
