Latham & Watkins promotes two

The US law firm promotes two partners to be the heads of its Hong Kong and Singapore offices.

Latham & Watkins has announced that Mitchell Stocks will be the firm's new office managing partner in Hong Kong, while Mark Nelson will be office managing partner in Singapore. The two existing partners are taking over the duties of Joe Bevash who ran both offices. Bevash was most recently involved in the integration of the firm's new Paris office but is now returning to Latham & Watkins' San Diego office.

Latham & Watkins has been in Asia since 1986 and Hong Kong since 1994 primarily focusing on project finance work, although the firm is keen to continue expanding into other practice areas. These include M&A, capital markets and technology.

"Under Joe's direction our Hong Kong and Singapore offices have grown from narrowly focused project finance offices into broader service offices with critical mass for significant transactions," says Robert Dell, Chairman of Latham & Watkns. "With their local experience and market knowledge, Mitch and Mark will contribute significantly to the firm's global expansion."

Recent deals that the firm has worked on include Holcim's acquisition of PT Semen Cibinong, a convertible note financing for Bandwidth Asia and the refinancing of the Theun Hinboun power project in Laos.
