COO of the Year: Andrew Narracott, Aberdeen

Last week AsianInvestor unveiled five awards at a celebratory dinner for winners of all this year's prizes, which were announced online last month. We will feature a detailed write-up on all our award winners in the forthcoming June edition of AsianInvestor  magazine.

This week we have outlined why those five marquee winners scooped their prizes. We have already featured Invesco, for its Asset Manager of the Year and Best Business Development awards; UOB Asset Management as Asian Fund House of the Year; and HSBC Securities Services as Asset Service Provider of the Year.

COO of the year
Andrew Narracott, Aberdeen Asset Management
Although he is a relative newcomer to the chief operating officer role, Andrew Narracott has a wealth of experience in back office and operations.

The volatility that led to a run on emerging markets last year and caused a record level of redemptions on the funds of the emerging markets-focused Aberdeen Asset Management. Despite these trying conditions, Narracott was able to impress his clients with the quality of service that he delivered.

He also undertook the integration of a new private equity business in Hong Kong and started a new business for Aberdeen in Taiwan. Most notably, Narracott was able to deal with all the issues around Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect and the China market implosion of mid-2015.

It was an impressive level of professionalism, conducted amid torrid market conditions.
