AsianInvestor, FinanceAsia and The Corporate Treasurer jointly hosted the 2nd Annual Borrowers & Investors Forum, Southeast Asia, in Singapore on October 30-31.

Government officials, finance ministers, asset managers, institutional investors, rating agencies and service providers gathered at the at the Marina Bay Sands Hotel in the Lion City to discuss fixed income funding requirements, investment opportunities and concerns facing portfolio managers when selecting global and regional credit.

Devan Selvanathan, head of the global debt platform for Asia Pacific at Natixis, noted there remain questions over how far China will go in developing its offshore RMB market as it looks to reconcile its onshore and offshore markets to target full convertibility and reserve-currency status.

The durability of bond investing and the potential of a great rotation into equities formed another topic of discussion, with Aberdeen Asset Management’s Peter Elston pointing to historical precedence to indicate that bonds will suffer very poor performance for the next 20 to 40 years.
