Warburg gets Wadle

The highly regarded John Wadle is set to return to Hong Kong from Tokyo as UBS WarburgÆs head of Asian regional bank research.
Wadle will join UBS as an executive director, and leaves JP Morgan, with whom he had worked for seven years. He ran bank research in Tokyo.

According to UBS’s head of research, Michael Oertli, his new hire will focus on a top-down approach to the region’s banks and looks forward to be involved on primary market and M&A business. For starters, he will focus on a few big banks, which presumably means HSBC and DBS.

Wadle brings a somewhat unique perspective having both worked as an analyst and a corporate financier. He worked in JP Morgan’s Hong Kong corporate finance team.

Says Oertli: “John wants to come back to Asia, as he sees lots of action here. He see there being a great variety of challenges and a lot of work related to bank restructurings.”

Wadle is Oertli’s second high profile hire this month. Previously,  he lured top-ranked utilities analyst, Alice Hui from Prudential Securities.
