Funds specialist Emily Low joins White & Case

Leaving her wealth management post at UBS, Low moves to the law firm as an investment funds counsel in Singapore.

Emily Low started on Monday at law firm White & Case in Singapore as counsel in the investment funds practice group. She was previously a director in UBS's wealth management division for three years, and before that was head of the investment funds practice at law firm Allen & Gledhill, also in Singapore.

Low has advised on the establishment and structuring of private equity and hedge funds, investment into funds and offering of fund interests, as well as licensing and related regulatory matters in Singapore. She is White & Case's first pure investment funds specialist in Singapore.

"Singapore is increasing in its importance as a jurisdiction for funds, and we needed to be able to service this increasing demand from our clients," says a spokeswoman for White & Case. "Having someone dedicated in Singapore enables us to support not only local clients' needs, but also meet the demands of our regional fund clients."

Earlier this year, the city state put in place a tax incentive to increase the jurisdiction's attraction for fund managers, for example.

White & Case is one of six law firms in Singapore with a qualifying foreign law practice licence. As a Singapore-qualified lawyer, Emily will be able to advise both Singaporean and international clients of the firm on their business in the Lion City. Only firms with a QFLP licence may advise on both Singapore and international law.

White & Case has lawyers in 36 offices across 25 countries, with a substantial investment funds practice in Asia.
